Eltham High Volleyball - Policy

General Principles

- To provide opportunities for as many students as possible to play volleyball.

- To Provide an elite sports program providing intensive coaching and skill development and the opportunity for students to compete at State and National level.

At school level the following coaching program will be provided:

1. Participation in the sport program at year 7 and 8.

2. Lunch time training.

3. Before and after school training for more experienced teams.

4. The opportunity for students in years 8 to 12 to play in regular junior volleyball competition each Wednesday after school.

5. A Thursday after school competition that is open to all year 7 students.

The Program

Volleyball is offered to students in year 7 via the sport program. During term 1 many students have the opportunity to participate in a very general program where athletic potential is assessed. During term 2  a group of 32 students are invited to take part in a more intensive training program during year 7 sport. From this, teams are selected for participation in the Victorian Schools Cup in July. Year 8 sport also offers all students the opportunity to play volleyball. Students can try out for the volleyball program again in year 8.

Volleyball is offered to Middle School students as an elective. ITC/V - or intensive training course/volleyball is where students can take part in an extensive course for a semester. This includes experience in playing, coaching and umpiring and students have the opportunity to gain a level 1 district referees qualification.

In the senior years all training takes place as an extra curricular activity either before school or after school.

To enable as many students as possible to play, the school will enter multiple teams in the district sport competition and the Victorian Schools Cup.

Selection guidelines and selection criteria for Region, Conference, State Finals and National Schools Cup

1. For these conmpetitions teams will be selected to produce the best possible team from the base players available. Eg State Finals - teams selected from year 11/12, 9/10, year 8 and year 7.

2. For National Schools Cup the best available team will be selected from the entire age group available.

3. Teams for National Schools Cup will have to qualify by finishing in the top 3 teams in their division at Victorian Schools Cup. Preference will be given to teams competing in honours divisions. Teams will be selected during the year based on:

  • School conduct
  • Dedication to training over the course of the year
  • Player and teams performance at Victorian Schools Cup Eg. it may occur that we combine the best of our U/17 and open players in order to be competitive in the open honours division at National Schools Cup
